Kuzinellus febriculus (Ueckermann & Loots) View in CoL
(Fig. 6)
Typhlodromus (Seiulus) febriculus Ueckermann & Loots, 1984: 311 .
Kuzinellus febriculus, Moraes et al., 2004: 272 View in CoL ; Chant & McMurtry, 2007: 144.
FEMALE. (Specimens measured. South Africa: Holotype)
Dorsum. Dorsal shield 325 long and 173 wide; reticulate. Setae j1 22, j3 27, j4 21, j5 21, j6 30, J2 34, J5 21, z2 21, z3 30, z4 31, z5 24, z6 26, Z4 45, Z5 56, s4 34, s6 37, S2 48, S4 55, S5 42, r3 30, R1 32. Setae setiform, smooth and sharp-tipped; except J5 and Z5, serrate; seta R1 inserted on dorsal shield.
Venter. Sternal shield smooth, margins partially indistinct; distances between ST1-ST3 59, ST2-ST2 42. Genital shield smooth; distance between ST5-ST5 56. Ventrianal shield smooth, pentagonal, slightly constricted laterally, anterior margin almost straight, 104 long, 66 wide at level of ZV2, 57 wide at level of anus; seta JV2 absent and JV3 present; round preanal pores almost in transversal line with JV3. Caudoventral setae smooth and sharp-tipped.
Chelicera. Movable digit 21 long; fixed digit 19 long, position renders teeth counting not possible.
Kuzinellus febriculus (Ueckermann & Loots) (female): A. Dorsal shield; B. Ventral surface; C. Spermath-
eca; D. Leg IV.
Spermatheca. Calyx saccular, 11 long; atrium incorporated in calyx.
Legs. Macrosetae absent. Chaetotaxy: genu II: 2-2/0, 2/0-1; genu III: 1-2/1, 2/0-1.
Specimens examined. Holotype female, South Africa: 16 km NE Hluhluwe, Kwazulu/ Natal, on Acacia xanthophloea , 21-VIII-1980, M.K.P. Smith Meyer, deposited at NCA-PPRI.
Remarks. According to Chant & McMurtry (1994, 2007), seta JV2 is present and JV3 is absent; however, judging from the arrangement of the pre-anal setae in the other species of Kuzinellus , it seems that the missing seta in K. febriculus is actually JV2.
World distribution. South Africa.
