Setae j1 19(16–22), j3 26(24–27), j4 18(16–19), j5 19(18–21), j6 36(34–40), J2 47(46–48), J5 38(35–42), z2 21(19–24), z3 30(29– 32), z4 32(30–34), z5 21(21–22), z6 29(29–30), Z4 52(48–54), Z5 60(58–64), s4 36 (34–40), s6 41 (37–48), S2 54 (48–61), S4 57 (51–64), S5 57 (53–62), r3 23(19–26), R1 38(37–38). Setae thick, thorn-like, serrate, sharptipped, except j1, smooth; most setae inserted on tubercles; seta R1 inserted on dorsal shield.

Peritreme. Extending beyond level of j1.

Venter. Sternal shield smooth, with 3 pairs of setae; posterior margin concave, with a median lobe; distances between ST1-ST3 55(53–58), ST2-ST2 54(53–54). Genital shield smooth; distance between ST5-ST5 57(56–58). Ventrianal shield smooth, vase-shaped, anterior margin slightly convex, 101(98–104) long, 74 wide at level of ZV2, 69(64–74) wide at level of anus; setae JV2 and JV3 present; ellipsoidal preanal pores posteromesad to JV2. Caudoventral setae smooth and sharp-tipped.

Chelicera. Movable digit 24 long, with 2 teeth; fixed digit 23 long, with 4 teeth and a pilus dentilis.

Spermatheca. Calyx saccular, 16(14–18) long; atrium small, incorporated in calyx.

Legs. Sharp-tipped macroseta: St IV 14 (11–16). Chaetotaxy: genu II: 2-2/1, 2/0-1; genu III: 1-2/1, 2/0-1.

MALE: Unknown.

Locality and type material. Holotype and 1 paratype females from unknown plant, 11 km W Nkawi, Ghana, 2-IV-1990, B. Haruna and K. Antwi, deposited at ESALQ-USP; 1 paratype female from Albizia zygia, Se, Département du Mono, Benin, 9-VII-1992, B. Eklou, deposited at IITAIM.

Etymology. The epithet hystricosus refers to the thorny and serrate dorsal idiosomal setae of this species.

Remarks. Kuzinellus parvus ( Denmark & Matthysse) and K. sentus (Pritchard & Baker) differ from this species by having calyx of spermatheca funnel-shaped. In addition, K. parvus has seta J5 slender and shorter than j1 while K. sentus has setae j4, j5, j6, z5 and z6 smooth.
