( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 )
Diagnosis. This species is characterized by having dorsal setae thick, thorn-like; Z4 and Z5 serrate; seta J5 about half as long as j1, j4 and j5; seta J2 ca. 0.4 times as long as the distance between its base and the base of Z4; S2 ca. 0.8 times as long as the distance between its base and the base of S4; calyx of spermatheca funnelshaped; atrium small; genu II with 7 setae.
FEMALE. (2 specimens measured).
Dorsum. Dorsal shield 363(360–365) long and 204(201–208) wide, strongly ornamented with roundish elements. Setae j1 26(25–26), j3 27(26–28), j4 22(21–22), j5 21(20–22), j6 25(24–25), J2 29(28–30), J5 12, z2 23(22–23), z3 25, z4 26, z5 23, z6 25, Z4 38(37–38), Z5 49(48–50), s4 28 (27–28), s6 32 (31–33), S2 36 (35–36), S4 40 (38–42), S5 27 (26–28), r3 24, R1 26(24–27). Setae thick and thorn-like, smooth and sharptipped; except Z4 and Z5, serrate; seta R1 inserted on membrane.
Peritreme. Extending to level of j1.
Venter. Sternal shield mostly smooth, with few lateral striae and 2 pairs of setae (ST3 inserted on membrane); posterior margin indistinct; distances between ST1-ST3 69(68–70), ST2-ST2 61(60–61). Genital shield smooth; distance between ST5-ST5 65(64–66). Ventrianal shield smooth, pentagonal, constricted laterally at level of preanal pores, anterior margin slightly concave, 118(116–120) long, 87(85–89) wide at level of ZV2, 73(71–75) wide at level of anus; setae JV2 and JV3 present; round preanal pores mesad of and slightly posterior to JV2. Caudoventral setae smooth and sharp-tipped.
Chelicera. Movable digit 29(28–30) long, with 2 teeth; fixed digit 26(25–26) long, with 3 – 4 teeth and a pilus dentilis.
Spermatheca. Calyx funnel-shaped, 37 long; atrium small, narrower than diameter of calyx next to it.
Legs. Slightly knobbed macroseta: St IV 32 (31–32). Chaetotaxy: genu II: 2-2/0, 2/0-1; genu III: 1-2/1, 2/ 0-1.
MALE. Unknown.
Locality and type material. Holotype female from Dalbergia nitidula , 16 km SW Mpika, Zambia, 17- VI-1992, A. Onzo, deposited at ESALQ-USP. One paratype female from Brachystegia boehmii , 150 km SW Mpika, Zambia, 17-VI-1992, A. Onzo, deposited at IITAIM.
Etymology. This species is named after Carlos H.W. Flechtmann, eminent Brazilian acarologist, former Professor, Departamento de Entomologia, Fitopatologia e Zoologia Agrícola, Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz”, Universidade de São Paulo (ESALQ-USP), Brazil.
Remarks. Kuzinellus acanthus , K. blairi and K. niloticus (El-Badry) differ from this species by having seta J2 at least 0.7 times as long as the distance between its base and the base of Z4; S2 at least as long as the distance between its base and the base of S4; genu II with 8 setae.
