4. Eugenia mabaeoides Wight (1841: 13) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated here):— CEYLON [Sri Lanka]. Herb. Wight s.n. ( K! [barcode K000821533 ]).
Distribution:— India [Tamil Nadu, Kerala] and Sri Lanka; 1500‒1700 m.
Notes:— Kostermans (1981: 166) cited the collection “ J. Watson anno 1834 in Herb. Griffith 2362 (K)” but did not explicitly indicate it as a type, as he usually did. Wight’s protologue cites ‘ Ceylon.—Moon and Watson’, so at least one syntype would be a Watson collection. The specimen cited by Kostermans could not be located at Kew, so we have chosen the sheet K000821533, ‘ex Herb. R. Wight’, as the lectotype. The label on this sheet has wording that approximates closely the second part of Wight’s description in the protologue and that appears to be in his hand. No collector is indicated, but this is clearly original material that is consistent with the protologue, and might have been collected by Moon or Watson.
