19. Syzygium hemisphericum (Wight) Alston (1931: 115) View in CoL .

= Eugenia hemispherica Wight (1841: 14 View in CoL , 18). = Jambosa hemispherica (Wight) Walpers (1843: 191) View in CoL . = Strongylocalyx hemisphericus (Wight) Blume (1850: 89) . Lectotype (designated here): Wight, Ill. Ind. Bot. 2: t. ‘97* or 122’, 8 (cf. Wight, Icon. Pl. Ind. Orient. 2: t. 525).

Distribution:— India [Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu] and Sri Lanka; 0‒ 900 m.

Notes:— Wight did not cite a specimen but merely gave the distribution as ‘Ceylon’. He noted having seen the species only in flower, and floral features are shown in the associated illustration (Fig. 8 of tab. ‘97* or 122’). In the absence of identifiable original material, the illustration is here considered the type. The plate in Wight’s Icones (1842) is more comprehensive and, in addition to the floral features, depicts the leaves and inflorescences of the species.
