= Eugenia microphylla Beddome (1872 View in CoL : cx), nom. illeg., non Abel 1818, nec A. Richard 1846, nec L.C. Richard ex O. Berg 1861. = Syzygium gambleanum Rathakrishnan & Chithra View in CoL in Chithra (1983: 156), nom. superf. Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. “Common about Devellicottah in the Wynad, elev. 2000‒3000 feet.” Beddome 2840 (BM! [barcode BM000944303]). Remaining syntypes:— Beddome 2947 (BM! [barcode BM000944304], Beddome 21 (K! [barcode K000821525]).
Distribution:— India [Kerala, Tamil Nadu]; 600‒1500 m.
Notes:—The two collections at BM, Beddome 2840 and 2947, are mounted on a single sheet, and a sheet at Kew labelled as Beddome 21 from “S. Travancore, 4500 ft. ” Although none of these specimens cite the altitude given in the protologue, 2000–3000 ft., we consider all these specimens to be original material and we have chosen Beddome 2840 as lectotype due to its better flowering material.
