Species of Procatopodidae might exhibit moderate sexual dimorphism and pronounced dichromatism. Colour pattern elements are based on mature specimens, whereas morphometric characters are based on mature males.

1 Body size greater than 40 mm SL; dorsal and anal fins with striped pattern of five dark bands perpendicular to fin rays, most distinct on last posterior rays, as well as caudal fin with five distinct transverse dark bands; number of scales in mid-longitudinal series 28-29.................
