Family Echinorhinidae
Echinorhinus brucus (Bonnaterre 1788) —No common name in Madeira; Longnose spurdog
McEachran & Branstetter 1984: 138 | Sanches 1986: 91.
Distribution in Macaronesia. All references to Macaronesia seem to be based on literature and apparently no specimens have been caught in the area or at least were not deposited in museum collections ( Santos et al. 1997; Brito et al. 2002; Carneiro et al. 2014; Hanel & John 2014).
Remarks. Since there are neither reliable references nor specimens in collection, this species should be excluded from the list of Chondrichthyans of Madeira.
No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009. Taxonomic information exchange and copyright: the Plazi approach. BMC Research Notes 2009, 2:53 for further explanation.
