Cicada nitida Degeer 1773: 220 ( Suriname) View in CoL .

REMARKS. The claspers form a drooping hook-like extension extending out of the pygofer being bent at an approximate right angle. The basal pygofer lobes are rounded with recurved spinous extensions. The species can be distinguished from T. demissa and T. misella by the lack of infuscation on the apex of the fore wing in these species. Taphura demissa differs from T. hastifera by the lack of a transverse piceous band on the anterior abdominal tergites and the claw-like claspers of that species ( Sanborn 2017a).

DISTRIBUTION. The species is currently known from Bolivia, Brazil, French Guiana, Peru, and Suriname ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2013; 2017a). The species has been recorded from Curoïco ( Jacobi 1907).
