REMARKS. The male genitalia, particularly the shape of the claspers, quickly separate male specimens of all species of Taphura as each species has highly unique genitalia. This species can be distinguished from T. hastifera and T. nitida by the infuscation on the apex of the fore wings in these species. The male genitalia of T. demissa are similar to T. nitida at first glance but the claspers have a recurved spine near the bend in T. demissa . The simple male genitalia, very short claspers, U-shaped female sternite VII and infuscation in the middle of hind wing anal cell 3 distinguish this species from T. demissa which has extended male claspers, a V-shaped notch in female sternite VII, and lacks infuscation in the middle of hind wing anal cell 3 ( Sanborn 2017a).

DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported only from Bolivia ( Sanborn 2017a).
