Herrera turbida ( Jacobi, 1907) View in CoL n. comb., new record

Carineta turbida Jacobi 1907: 17 View in CoL . (Callanga, Peru)

REMARKS. While identify specimens of this species, I observed that the head width is greater than the mesothorax width in this species. A head as wide as or wider than the mesonotum is characteristic of species of the genus Herrera while the head is not as wide as the mesonotum in species of Carineta (see comments on the genera above). The lateral pronotum is not strongly angled mediad in this species as in species of Carineta . Therefore, based on the head being wider than the mesonotum and the shape of the prothorax, the species is reassigned to Herrera to become Herrera turbida ( Jacobi, 1907) n. comb.

This species can be distinguished from the other Bolivian species of Herrera by the reduced mesothoracic markings and copious piceous pile radiating from the dorsal surface of all body regions in this species.

DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported previously only from Peru ( Metcalf 1963c).
