Carineta illustris Distant, 1905c View in CoL
Carineta illustris Distant 1905c: 483 View in CoL . (Amazons and Iquitos, Peru)
REMARKS. Another of the Carineta species with infuscation in the fore wing. The infuscation is found at the wing bases in proximal fore wing and hind wing cells extending to distal hind wing anal cell 3 through anal cell 1 in C. illustris but is found on the apical cells of both fore wing and hind wings along with distal anal cell 3 of the hind wing in both C. boliviana and C. lydiae , is restricted to the distal hind wing apical cells and distal apical cell 3 in C. boulardi , as a central fuscous spot near the distal hind wing radial cell along with marginal series of linear spots in the fore wing of C. centralis , and on the distal fore wing cubital cell and clavus of the fore wing and distal hind wing apical cell 3, distal anal cell 1 and wing margin of the hind wing in C. cearana . Sanborn (2016b) described and illustrated the difference between C. cearana and C. illustris .
DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2013). Metcalf (1963c) lists Amazonas, a state in Brazil, rather than the Amazons found in the original references. Iquitos is found in the Peruvian Amazon but many specimens in the BMNH originated in the Brazilian Amazon. Since Distant (1905c) identified the localities individually, Brazil is considered to be part of the species distribution. The species has been recorded from Mapiri and Yungas in Bolivia ( Jacobi 1907).
