Hieracium divaricatum Fries (1862: 78) View in CoL .
Holotype:― BULGARIA. Rumelia , [1835] [original label in Frivaldszky’s own handwriting] ( LE 1017994 ) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ) (isotype BM
600090). = Hieracium rumelicum Formánek (1898: 50) , syn. nov. ≡ Hieracium sismanovianum Urumoff & Zahn in Urumoff (1906: 57), nom. illeg. superfl. Lectotype (designated here):― BULGARIA. Ostrec, Rhodope, 2 August 1897, E. Formánek ( BRNM 7304/36) ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ) (isolectotype
BRNM 7304 B).
Notes: — Fries (1862) based his new species on a single specimen which he cited as deposited at “ Mus. H. Petrop.” (present-day LE). This citation of the only specimen establishes the holotype of this species name.
There is a specimen of H. divaricatum (BM 600090) deposited at the Natural History Museum in London that was labelled by Frivaldszky as H. pilosissimum . This specimen is a duplicate of the material seen by Fries at LE and should be treated as an isotype.
Hieracium sismanovianum was published as an illegitimate, superfluous substitute for H. rumelicum based on the same specimens.
Other specimens examined:— BULGARIA. In saxosis calcareis aridissimis montes Rhodopes centralis supra pagum Stanimaka, 7. July 1892, J. Wagner ( BP s.n., BRNM 7297 About BRNM /36, PRC s.n.) ; In saxosis montes Rhodopes centralis prope pagum Bellova, July 1892, J. Wagner ( BP 444611 ) .
