Diagnosis. Body size, on average, is greater (9.4–13.6 mm) than in the nominotypical subspecies (8.9–12.6 mm), elytra are more parallel-sided, metepisterna longer, mesotarsomere 1 of male with adhesive scales in apical part, and medial lobe with a dorsomedial spiny patch in internal sac ( Figs 64–67 View FIGURES 60 – 67 ); median lobe of the nominotypical subspecies is without dorsomedial spiny patch in the internal sac ( Figs 60–63 View FIGURES 60 – 67 ).
Distribution. The southern part of China (Yunnan, Xizang, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Taiwan). The subspecies is recorded here from Xizang, Guangxi and Guangdong for the first time.
Harpalus indicus orientalis is also known from Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos ( Kataev 2014).
Remarks. Harpalus indicus is very similar to H. meghalayensis Kataev, 2001 from northeastern India (Meghalaya) in many characteristics including the transverse elytral microsculpture, the hind femora with two or three setigerous pores along hind margin, the nonpubescent elytral intervals and the obtuse, not denticulate, basal angles of pronotum; in addition, like the males of the subspecies H. indicus orientalis , the males of H. meghalayensis possess adhesive scales at apex of the mesotarsomere 1. As compared with adults of H. indicus , those of H. meghalayensis are stouter, with pronotum broader and more strongly depressed at basal angles; the internal sac of aedeagus ( Figs. 68–71 View FIGURES 68 – 71 ) has one or two medial spiny patches and comparatively short field " a " ( Kataev 2001).
