Original data: “ Habitat in America meridionali. Mus. D. Hunter ” ( Fabricius 1781: 381) .
Non-type: 1 ♂: “ TYPE ” // “ MUSEUM PARIS Coll. Bosc. ” // “ R. hamatus h. in Carolina fab” [hw Bosc] .
Type locality: America meridionali [Southern America] .
Current status: Rasahus hamatus ( Fabricius, 1781) (combination proposed by Stål 1872: 106).
Remarks: This specimen from the Bosc collection cannot be the type specimen of Reduvius hamatus as this species was described from the Hunter collection (deposited in the University of Glasgow). According to Zimsen (1964), the type is now preserved in the Natural History Museum of Denmark (Copenhagen); see also Putshkov & Putshkov (1987) .
