12. Hypocryphalus mangiferae (Stebbing) View in CoL *
Cryphalus mangiferae Stebbing, 1914: 542 View in CoL .
Distribution: Apparently native to India ( Wood 1977), but now found throughout the tropics and subtropics wherever the mango is grown. New to Taiwan. [6]
New records: Hualien, Liyutan , 14.ix.1982 (K. C. Chou, C. N. Lin) (1) ; Pingtung, Kenting , 100m, ex Mangifera indica , 21.iv.2002 (H. Gebhardt) (1) ; Taichung, National Chunghsing University , 19.iv.2006 (12), 11.x.2006 (1), 17.xi.2006 (2) (L. Y. Liu) ; Taitung, Taimali , funnel trap, 3.ii.2006 (L. Y. Liu, R. A. Beaver) (4) .
Hosts: Almost all records are from the mango ( Mangifera indica ) ( Anacardiaceae ).
Biology: The biology of the species is described by Masood et al. (2009). The beetle is known to carry pathogenic fungi which can cause ‘sudden decline’ disease of mango ( Al Adawi et al. 2006; Masood et al. 2009), and is thus of economic importance.
