status

77. Ambrosiophilus satoi (Schedl) n.comb.

Xyleborus satoi Schedl, 1966a: 39 .

Distribution: Bhutan, Taiwan. The species was described from timber imported to Japan from Taiwan. Its presence in Taiwan is now confirmed. [3]

New Records: Nantou, Kao-Leng Dyi , 18km W of Wushe, 24°4.561’N, 121°8.046’E, 1945m, swept from vegetation, 18–19.iv.2002 (D. Anstine, G. Fábián, O. Merkl) (3); Neimoupu, funnel trap, 28.xii.2004 (C. S. Lin) (1); Taichung, Shei-Pa N. P., pitfall trap, 21.v.2004 (J. T. Yang) (1); Taipei, Fu-Shan LTER site, lake shore meadow, swept, 25.iii.2003 (L. Papp, M. Földvári) (1) GoogleMaps .

Hosts: ‘camphor log’ [ Cinnamomum camphora (Lauraceae) ].

Taxonomy: We have seen a specimen (NHMB) from Bhutan that agrees very well with the Taiwanese specimens recorded above, except that the interstrial hairs are longer. Presumably, the species also occurs in the intervening region. The species is listed under Xyleborus in the Wood and Bright catalog (1992), but has the characteristics of Ambrosiophilus Hulcr and Cognato ( Hulcr & Cognato 2009), and is here transferred to that genus. A paratype (NMW) has been examined.
