STOMION PUNCTIPENNIS EC VAN DYKE
Stomion galapagoensis punctipennis Van Dyke, 1953: 72 . Holotype: type 7384 in CAS (examined). Type locality: Española (= Hood) Island. Label data: February 1906 F.X. Williams. Franz 1985: 92.
Diagnosis: Length 8–10 mm, width 4–5 mm; body large, broad, and flattened, 2¥ longer than wide; pronotum transverse, 1.6¥ wider than long, coarsely punctured, apical margin very convex, widest at middle, nearly as wide at base; elytra with striae formed by deep punctures and a double row of offset punctures in the intervals between the striae, the punctures nearly as coarse as those in the striae; dorsal tooth of right mandible weak.
Distribution: Española Island: Bahia Manzanilla, Punta Suarez, Bahia Gardner. Gardner at Española Island.
Bionomics. The species is found in the littoral and arid zones, from sea level to 30 m elevation, on calcareous sands, in litter under Cryptocarpus shrubs and Cordia and Prosopis trees, in seabird rookeries, in carrion and dung bait pitfall traps. Adults have been collected in February, and from April to June. Examined: 210 specimens.
