STOMION RUGOSUM EC VAN DYKE
Stomion rugosum Van Dyke, 1953: 80 . Holotype: type 7389 in CAS (examined). Type locality: Pinta (= Abingdon) Island. Label data: IX.1906 F.X. Williams. Franz 1985: 93.
Stomion rugosus Van Dyke, 1953: 81 (lapsus).
Diagnosis: Length 6–8 mm, width 3–4 mm; body broad, 2.0¥ longer than wide; body coarsely and rugosely punctured; pronotum slightly transverse, 1.5¥ wider than long, widest behind middle, nearly as wide at base; elytra with rugose ridges, very coarsely punctured both between and on top of ridges, some punctures anastomosing; dorsal tooth on right mandible present, moderately well developed.
Distribution: Marchena and Pinta Islands.
Bionomics: The species occurs from the littoral and arid zone from sea level up to transition zone forest at 400 m elevation, and is found in litter under shrubs and in forests. Adults have been collected in February, March and September. Examined: 176 specimens.
