STOMION CRIBRICOLLIS EC VAN DYKE
Stomion cribricollis Van Dyke, 1953: 75 . Holotype: Type 7386 in CAS (examined). Type locality: Wolf (= Wenman) Island. Label data: 24.ix.1906, F.X. Williams.
Diagnosis: Length 7–9 mm, width 3–4 mm; body elongate, 2.2¥ longer than wide; pronotum nearly quadrate, 1.2–1.3¥ wider than long; pronotum widest at middle, slightly constricted at base; pronotum with coarse, shallow punctures, elytra with parallel ridges, coarsely punctured both between and on top of the ridges; dorsal tooth of right mandible present but weak.
Distribution: Darwin and Wolf Islands.
Bionomics: Occurring in the arid zone from sea level to 50 m elevation, in leaf litter and under low vegetation. Adults have been collected in January, February, June, September and December. Abundant in dense Croton thickets on the north plateau of Wolf Island, probably feeding on abundant sea bird guano or nest debris. Examined: 364 specimens.
