31. Simulium (Gomphostilbia) gombakense Takaoka View in CoL , & Davies, 1995
Simulium (Morops) gombakense Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 82 View in CoL –84 (Larva).
Simulium (Gomphostilbia) gombakense: Takaoka, 2000: 111 View in CoL –114 (Male and pupa); Takaoka et al. 2018d: 165 –166 (Female).
This species was first described from a larva under the subgenus Morops Enderlein (Takaoka and Davies, 1995) , and later was transferred to the subgenus Gomphostilbia when its male and pupa were described (Takaoka, 2000). The female was described by Takaoka et al. (2018d). This species is characterized in the female by the yellow hair tuft of the base of the radial vein, and in the pupa by the gill composed of an inflated structure divided into three portions by two constrictions, first basal portion with six slender filaments, and middle and apical portions each with three finger-like projections and one slender filament.
This species is widely distributed on the mainland of Peninsular Malaysia, and the aquatic stages were collected from small streams in low to high elevations (388–1,750 m) in Cameron Highlands (Ya’cob et al., 2016a, b).
This species was recorded from southern and central regions of Thailand ( Takaoka et al., 2018d).
