Simulium (Gomphostilbia) pegalanense Smart & Clifford, 1969: 39 View in CoL (Male, pupa and larva)
Simulium (Gomphostilbia) View in CoL sp. A: Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 79–82 (Pupa and larva)
This species was described from Sabah ( Smart and Clifford, 1969). It is characterized by the larger number of male upper-eye facets (15 vertical columns and 15 or 16 horizontal rows according to the reexamination of the type male) and the pupal terminal hooks, of which both inner and outer margins are subequal in length to each other ( Takaoka and Tenedero, 2008).
The arrangement of gill filaments and the terminal hooks of S. (G.) sp. A described from pupae and larvae collected from Forest Reserve, Bentong (Takaoka and Davies, 1995), agree with those of S. (G.) pegalanense . The larval postgenal cleft reaches the posterior margin of the hypostoma in specimens from Sabah but not from Peninsular Malaysia.
The pupae and larvae were collected from small slow-flowing streams at low elevations in Negeri Sembilan.
