Hauffen (1886) described Paludina pellucida “in der Grotte am Glaven”, which means in the cave, but “glaven” means “main” in Slovenian, and there is no such geographic name. Brusina (1886) replaced this homonymous name with Vitrella hauffeni , described from “Krain”. According to Slapnik et al. (2010) the type locality of Iglica hauffeni is the small village of Dobeno, 10 km north of Ljubljana, although this localization assignment remains not necessarily justified. Schütt (1975) reported the lectotype of Paludina pellucida Hauffen from Senckenbergische Museum, Frankfurt am Main, Germany: SMF4882, from the Hauffen collection. According to Brusina (1886) the types were deposited in the “Laibacher Museum” which means the Museum in Ljubljana, but no more data on the type material is available. I. hauffeni is known from a few localities in a small area (caves and springs north and northwest of Ljubljana, Slovenia: Karaman 1935, Schütt 1975, Bole 1976, Bole & Velkovrh 1986, Bole et al. 1993, Velkovrh 2001, Mori 2003, De Mattia 2007). Our specimens were collected within the area defined above, in the cave Babja Luknja near Goričane, 7 km northeast of Ljubljana. Our specimens have been collected within the geographic range given by Schütt (1975) and De Mattia (2007), and their shells resemble the ones of I. hauffenii presented by Schütt (1975) and De Mattia (2005, 2007).
