Comment on Boarmiini

The eggs of all the species in this group, with the exception of Psilosticha mactaria , share wellrecognised features that support the intergeneric and tribal relationships of this group. The eggs of Cleora resemble those of the bistonine genera Paleacrita Riley and Phigalia Duponchel. These eggs all have very wide, undulating, round, elevated walls; however Bistonini is now included as part of Boarmiini sensu lato ( Holloway 1994). The eggs of the remaining genera have typical Boarmiine features [sensu Salkeld (1983)], such as a narrow and elongated shape and heavywalled polygonal cells arranged in longitudinal rows and soft chorion.

The eggs of P. mactaria are anomalous and greatly resemble those of the macariine species described below. This affiliation is supported by adult characters (unpublished data). Common characteristics are: soft chorion; conspicuous, concave, hexagonal, irregularly arranged cells; moderately broad, elevated, doubleridged cell walls; elevated, largedomed aeropyles with small to very small openings; micropylar cells overlaid with a fine reticulum.
