1. Loxandrus accelerans Casey, 1918:386 View in CoL

This taxon was described from an unspecified number of specimens collected at «Galveston, Texas ». Casey’s collection in USNM contains two conspecific specimens, both females, under that name. One of them, herein selected as the lectotype, is labelled «Tex/Casey bequest 1925/Type USNM 47338 About USNM / accelerans Csy. [handwritten]/ UAIC 00044047 View Materials / lectotype Loxandrus accelerans by [handwritten] R. T. Allen» .

The lectotype (SBL ¼ 5.6 mm; ABL ¼ about 6.0 mm) belongs to the agilis group. I cannot associate it with any species described by Allen (1972) but by its size and shape of pronotum, particularly the non protruding front angles, it looks more similar to members of L. algidus Allen than to any other species seen. It differs from the holotype and one paratype of L. algidus studied in having the antennae and legs entirely yellowish (6 reddish-black in L. algidus ), the elytral striae slightly shallower and less coarsely punctate, and the microsculpture on the proepisternum and metepisternum coarser.
