( Figure 10 View FIGURES 10 – 12. 10 )
1953 Emarginula tosaensis nov. spec.—Habe: p. 39.
1999 Emarginula tosaensis Habe, 1953 View in CoL —Higo et al.: p. 39.
2000 Emarginula tosaensis Habe, 1953 View in CoL —Sasaki: p. 45, pl. 22, fig. 10.
Material. Anda3 (1) RGM 961.722.
Characterization. Shell patelliform; L 8.97 mm; H 4.07 mm; W 6.23 mm; apex at 0.75 of shell length, not strongly involute; sculpture of about 40 radial ribs, primary and secondary ribs difficult to distinguish, commarginal ribs forming dense knobs on radial ribs; selenizone filled with sediment, demarcated by moderately strong keels; slit well developed; posterior slope slightly concave.
Distribution. Sagami Bay to Western Kyushu, Japan, 50–150 m ( Higo et al. 1999; Sasaki 2000). Also from the Pleistocene of the Moeshima shell bed, Kagoshima Bay, Kyushu, Japan ( Habe 1953).
Remarks. Emarginula dennanti Chapman & Gabriel, 1923 from the Oligocene and Miocene of Australia is quite similar with respect to its shape and radial ribbing, but its commarginal ribs are spaced farther apart. E. souverbiana Pilsbry, 1890 is also similar in its shape and radial ribbing, but its commarginal ribs are weaker and spaced farther apart.
