Type locality. “Omogokei, Ehime Pref. ” [ Japan, Shikoku   GoogleMaps , Ehime Prefecture, Omogokei Gorge, ca. 33°44′N 133°06′E].

Type material. Holotype male ( EUMJ), labeled: “(SHIKOKU), Omogo-Kei, 10. VIII. 1959, M. SAKAI leg.” // “ Holotype Eurypogon brevipennis SAKAI 1982 ”. One paratype [not studied by us], female ( EUMJ).

Additional material examined. JAPAN: HONSHU: 1 female, Mie Prefecture, Myojindake , 22. VI .1993, H. Kawase leg. ( NMPC); 1 female, Iwate Pref., Hachimantai, Ashiro-chô , ca. 1000–1300 m, 10.–13.VII.1995, H. Yoshitomi leg. ( NMPC).

Diagnosis. This species can be easily recognized based on the pronotum with sides nearly straight in both sexes ( Fig. 8F View FIGURE 8 ), the relatively short elytra ( Fig. 4C View FIGURE 4 ) which are together 1.8–1.9 times as long as wide, the relatively smooth elytral surface ( Fig. 10I View FIGURE 10 ) with mostly large punctures, and a unique shape of the aedeagal median lobe which is distinctly broad basally, gradually narrowed medially, and then slightly widened subapically ( Sakai 1982).

Sexual dimorphism. Females are slightly more robust and relatively shorter than males. For more information, see Sakai (1982).

Distribution. This species is endemic to Japan, being known across Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku Islands ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ).
