Petroneis granulata (Bailey) D.G.Mann in Round et al. (1990: 674) ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 11–20 )
References: Hendey 1964, p. 208, pl. 31, fig. 6 (as Navicula granulata Ehrenberg (1836: 220) ; Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 327, pl. 97, figs 1, 2.
Features: Length 90–124 μm, width 34–44 μm, striae 8–12 in 10 μm.
Description: Valves elliptical-lanceolate with protracted rostrate apices. Raphe branches straight, ending centrally in expanded pores. Transapical striae monoseriate, parallel at the center and radiate at the poles. Striae composed of rounded areolae more dense in the valve margin.
Remarks: P. granulata can be distinguished by striae structure which exhibit a more spaced and irregularly positioned areola around the axial area that become more compact and dense towards the margins.
Ecology and Distribution: Widespread marine littoral species. Previously reported from the Gulf ( Hendey 1970, Al-Handal 2009, Al-Yamani & Saburova 2011). Frequent in Basra corals.
