Sesleria haynaldiana Schur (1856: 207) View in CoL
Neotype (designated here):— ROMANIA. Transylvania: in rupestribus calcareis, April, F. Schur s.n. (B 10 0367409!). Image available at http://ww2.bgbm.org/Herbarium/specimen.cfm?Barcode=B100367409 [Röpert D. (ed.) 2000, continuously updated].
Other original material examined:— ROMANIA. Transylvania: In rupibus calcareis Transilvania, April, F. Schur s.n ( W 1912– 0010888!).
Note:—Schur did not cite any specific locality while describing the new species. The protologue states: “ Habitat in montibus, subalpinis, alpinisque Transsilvaniae, in rupibus calcareis, 5000–7000 ped. alta ”. However, for the infraspecific forms described in the same place he did cite precise localities, which he used later while labelling the specimens collected in Transylvania. Unfortunately, Schur used plant names and localities freely and with a lot of confusion ( Pifkó 2009). Given the confusing label information, we cannot identify original material with confidence. Therefore, we designate the specimen B 10 0367409 as a neotype. This specimen was collected in Transylvania and contains the unambiguous identification “ Sesleria haynaldiana ” in Schur’s handwriting.
