Zarcosia gerstmeieri n. sp.
( Figures 1 View FIGURE 1 ; 3d View FIGURE 3 ; 4f View FIGURE 4 ; 5j,v View FIGURE 5 ; 6c View FIGURE 6 )
Etymology. The species is named after my colleague Roland Gerstmeier who collected this new species, in appreciation of his support of my work on Aderidae .
Type locality. Vietnam: Ninh Bình Province, Nho Quan District, Cúc Phýõng National Park .
Distribution. Vietnam: Ninh Bình Province ( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Description. ( Figure 3d View FIGURE 3 ). Female unknown. Body length. ♂ holotype: 3.25 mm. Robust, sturdy, entirely dark, covered with double golden pubescence.
Head. Weakly transverse, barely wider than pronotum, covered with white pubescence. Pubescence particularly dense anteriorly, between the antennal space. Punctation coarse and very dense. Palpi orange, last article securiform. Posterior margin lined with a fringe of white pubescence.
Antennae. Strong, serrated, as long as elytra, antennomeres 3–7 long, antennomeres 8–10 progressively shorter. Covered with hirsute blond pubescence.
Pronotum ( Figure 6c View FIGURE 6 ). Convex, subrectangular, slightly longer than wide. Sides parallel from base to anterior fifth, then converging markedly inward toward apical margin anteriorly. Densely punctuated, points nearly adjacent. Covered with double pubescence, moderately long blond hairs borne from the punctation and pulverulent interspersed hairs. Base bi-sinuated with a dense fringe of golden pubescence anterior to the scutellum and at each posterior angle.
Elytra. Length: 1.15 mm. Punctation strong, points well delineated, deep, space between points larger than the points themselves. Densely covered with double pubescence ( Figure 5j View FIGURE 5 ). Weakly convex.
Legs. Short, sturdy, dark. No visible sexual characters.
Aedeagus ( Figure 4f View FIGURE 4 ). Very sturdy, strongly sclerotized, sides sinuated in dorsal view. Apex complex, lozenge shaped, terminated with a stinger. Strongly bent in lateral view, with an upward kink in apical fifth and a brief downward deflection at the tip.
Type material. Holotype (♂, NME). Vietnam: Ninh Bình Province, Nho Quan District, Cúc Phýõng National Park , end of road, 20°21’01” N 105°35’36” E (375 m) (R. Gerstmeier) 6.V.2017. GoogleMaps
