Type:— ECUADOR. Carchi: below Maldonado, 9 November1982, Pennington et al. 10501 (holotype: QCA; isotypes: BG! K! QCNE) .
Terrestrial trees, 20–30 m tall. Leaf blade 16–26 cm long, 14–17 cm wide, elliptic, base cuneate, apex acute, face adaxial smooth, glabrous, face abaxial smooth, glabrous or puberulent; secondary veins 18–22 pairs; petiole 4.0– 6.5 cm long, glabrous, periderm persistent; stipules caducous, 7.0– 10 cm long, glabrous. Syconia solitary; peduncle sessile or subsessile; lateral bracts presents; receptacle 2.0– 2.5 cm in diameter when dry, hispid or puberulent, apex rounded ( Fig. 1C, D View FIGURE 1 ).
Distribution and habitat in Colombia: — Antioquia, in montane rainforest at elevations of 1700–2000 m ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
