Type:— COLOMBIA. Tolima: El Fresno, región del Cerro Azul , hacienda de El Diamante, 4 December 1939, H. García-Barriga 8258 (holotype: COL!; isotypes: F! US!) .
Terrestrial trees, 10–30 m tall. Leaf blade 8–15 cm long, 2.5–4.5 cm wide, narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate, apex acuminate-cuspidate, base cuneate, glabrous on both surfaces, secondary veins 13–16 pairs; petiole 0.5–1.0 cm long, glabrous, periderm flaking off; stipules caducous, 1.0–3.0 cm long, glabrous on both surfaces. Syconia solitary,
peduncle sessile or to 2 mm long, puberulent; lateral bracts absent; receptacle 0.9–1.3 cm in diam. when dry (in vivo, to 2.0 cm), puberulent, apex rounded ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ).
Distribution and habitat in Colombia: — Antioquia Chocó and Tolima, in premontane rainforests at elevations of 300–1600 m ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).

Antioquia: Anorí, Canón do Rio Porce, entre quebrada San Benigno e desembocadura do Río Riachon, Fonnegra 2288 (RB); Anorí, Corregimiento Providencia, Soejarto D. 4277 (F); Rionegro, Río Porce, Espinal T. 801 (COL). Chocó: Riosucio, Parque Nacional Natural Los Katios, Barbosa 1245 (COL).
