Range: —Antilles; Mexico to Bolivia (BE, LP) and Brazil.

Ecology: —Rare (known from three collections); terrestrial in semihumid to humid forests; 200–850 m.

Notes: —Unmistakeable; blades hairy, palmate, veins areolate. Species of Doryopteris with roughly similar blade shapes have glabrous blades with marginal sori. Hemionitis palmata has small, dormant buds in the sinuses along the blade margins.
