Ctenosciara crinita View in CoL sp. n.

Figs 3 View FIGURE 3 A–D

Material studied. Holotype male. NEW CALEDONIA (no locality given), Malaise trap, 12–25.V.1989, Bonnet de Larbogne & Chazeau (in MNHN).

Description. Male. Head. Colour faint in specimen. Eye bridge 3 facets wide. Face with 11 scattered longer and shorter setae. Clypeus not clearly discernible in the specimen. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres; palpomere 3 longer than palpomere 1, palpomere 2 shortest; palpomere 1 with 3 setae, with a dorsal patch of sensilla; surface of antennal flagellomeres rough, flagellomere 4 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A) 3.15x as long as wide, the neck slightly longer than broad, the longest setae longer than the width of flagellomere. Thorax. Fainted in the specimen, setae pale. Anterior pronotum with 3 setae. Episternum 1 with 6 setae. Scutum with long dorsocentrals, with some longer and shorter laterals, scutellum with 4 longer and some short setae. Wing. Hyalinous. Length 1.5 mm. Width/length 0.45. Veins distinct. R1/R 1.0. c/ w 0.75. r-m and bM subequal in length. M and CuA setose, r-m and bM nonsetose. Legs. Coxal setae pale. Apical part of front tibia, Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B: tibial organ with pale vestiture forming a long curved row. Front tibial spur slightly longer than the tibial width. Claws with fine teeth. Abdomen. Setae pale. Hypopygium, Figs 3 View FIGURE 3 C, D. Colour fainted in the specimen, setae long and pale. Gonocoxa slightly longer than gonostylus, apically widened, mesial margin with long and sparse setosity. Gonostylus slightly curved, eventually narrowed towards apex, with the mesial side weakly impressed, with a dense vestiture, with a short and thick apical tooth, with 3 slender megasetae in subapical group, without apical megasetae. Tegmen longer than broad, apically roundish, weakly sclerotized, aedeagal apodeme short.

Discussion. Ctenosciara crinita can be distinguished from all other known species of Ctenosciara by its unusually densely setose gonostylus with a short and broad apical tooth of gonostylus and unusually slender megasetae. Furthermore, the gonocoxa of the holotype seems to be broadened towards its apical part, but this may be an artefact.

Etymology. The name is Latin, crinita , hairy, referring to the richly setose gonostylus.
