Pirata sanya Barrion, Barrion-Dupo & Heong , new species [ Figure 20 A-D]
MALE. Holotype male, total length 3.30 mm. Cephalothorax length 1.60 mm, width 1.05 mm. Abdomen length 1.70 mm, width 0.95 mm.
Carapace. Black with reddish tinge posteriorly and a white patch of hairs in the posterior eye area, 1.52x longer than wide, width of the subparallel-sided cephalic about half the width of the thoracic area at its broadest side. Chelicerae black basally to reddish apically with yellow fang, 3x longer than wide. Pedipalp blackish red. Maxillae brownish yellow, 1.6x longer than wide with converging apices. Labium brownish red except yellow truncated anterior margin, 1.28x wider than long. Sternum brownish yellow, moderately high medially and clothed with white hairs, midanterior slightly deep and posterior end extended beyond coxae IV.
Eyes. In three rows of 4, 2 and 2. AER shorter than PME row (0.31: 0.37 mm). PLE row the longest (0.47 mm). Eye diameter (mm): PME (0.14)> PLE (0.13)> AME=ALE (0.06). Eye separation (mm): AME-AME = AME-ALE (0.03), PME-PME (0.11), PLE-PLE (0.31). Clypeus height narrow as long as one AME diameter.
Legs. Long and slender, yellow with dark brown to reddish brown patellae, tibiae, bases of metatarsi I, II and III, and basal half of metatarsus IV. White hairs lined the middorsum and apices of patellae and tibiae. Metatarsus I bears three trichobothria and tarsus I with two. Metatarsus II and III subequal in length. Leg formula 4123.
Abdomen. Black and distinctly oblongate, 1.8x longer than wide. Dorsum of abdomen with long erect hairs on posterior three-fourths, laterals with longitudinal rows of interrupted yellow spots, and a yellow spot apicolaterally. Spinnerets black, robust anterior pair 1.7x thicker than the thinner but longer posterior pair.
Palpal organ as long as femur IV. Femur with three dorsal and venter with eight bristles in increasing length towards the base. Patella bears two dorsal setae. Tibia with three retrolateral spines. Median apophysis thin and sharply pointed apically, its tip hooked ventrally towards the cymbium.
FEMALE. Unknown.
Material Examined. Holotype male (coll. No. Sa2010-1), CHINA, Hainan Island, Sanya , 9-13 August 2010, ATBarrion and SCVillareal.
Diagnostic Features. This new species is similar to Pirata subpiraticus (Boesenberg & Strand, 1906) but differs from the latter in the following characters, (1) long, thin and slender median apophysis, (2) presence of two subapical spines in the cymbium, (3) mat of white hairs in the posterior median eye area, (4) leg measurements and spination, (5) presence of erect hairs along the posterodorsal three-fourths of abdomen.
