The largest family of Plecoptera , the Perlidae include>1,000 described species distributed throughout the Neotropical, Holarctic, Oriental, and Afrotropical regions ( Fochetti & Tierno de Figueroa 2008). The Neotropical fauna of Perlidae includes 10 genera and approximately 390 species ( Froehlich 2010a).
