Brincadorus sp. (female)
( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 )
Collecting locality: Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil.
Length: 5.0 mm.
Coloration: Body yellow dorsally, and light yellow ventrally ( Fig. 8A View FIGURE 8 ). Pronotum and mesonotum with muscular markings slightly darker. Pronotum with pair of dark round spots near lateral margins. Forewing translucent, yellow ( Fig. 8A View FIGURE 8 ).
External morphology: Coronal suture not reaching midlength of crown; frontal region convex ( Fig. 8A View FIGURE 8 ). Clypellar suture arcuate. Clypellus tapering apically. Forewing without extra crossveins on costal margin ( Fig. 8A View FIGURE 8 ). Profemur intercalary row with 11 setae; row AV with 5–6 relatively long setae. Protibia rows AD+PD with 1+4 macrosetae. Other characters as in the generic description.
Female terminalia: Pygofer apex slightly acute in lateral view, with numerous macrosetae near posterior margin. Abdominal sternite VII with posterolateral angles rounded; posterior margin with a pair of shallow lateral concavities; with a median notch ( Fig. 8B View FIGURE 8 ). Valvifers I with posterior margin rounded ( Fig. 8C View FIGURE 8 ). Valvulae I convex ventrally; shaft with dorsal sculpturing pattern imbricate ( Figs. 8C–D View FIGURE 8 ). Valvulae II with 21 continuous primary subtriangular teeth on dorsal margin, preapical region without denticles on ventral margin ( Figs. 8E–G View FIGURE 8 ). Other characters as in generic description.
Notes: Since the overall color pattern of the different species of the genus is very conserved, and because there are no males collected at the same locality, this specimen could not be attributed to any known species of Brincadorus . It is the first specimen of the genus collected at Rio de Janeiro State, and the only species recorded near this locality is B. laticeps , which is recorded for the neighboring State of São Paulo (although this may be from a misidentification, see above). This female, however, was collected in the Atlantic Forest, while the specimen identified by Zanol & Menezes (1982) as B. laticeps is recorded from a locality which is a transition between this biome and the Brazilian Cerrado. Further collecting trips in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo should yield more material for analysis.
