Type material: Meioneta barrowsi Chamberlin & Ivie 1944 , 3 HOLOTYPE, Ƥ ALLOTYPE from Georgia: Demorest, W 83º 32’: N 34º 33’, April 26, 1943, Wilton Ivie collector ( AMNH). EXAMINED.
Diagnosis: Males are diagnosed from all Agyneta by their smooth, leaf-shaped lamella characteristica ( Fig. 354 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Females are diagnosed from all species by their long and narrow epigynal slits almost reaching the anterior part of the epigynum ( Fig. 358 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). From A. unimaculata by the S-shaped receptaculum of the internal genitalia ( Fig. 359 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ), elongated and straight in the latter ( Fig. 314 View FIGURES 309 – 315 ).
Description: Male: Total length 1.72; carapace length 0.82, width 0.62.
CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace light orange-brown, shiny, finely reticulate; lightly suffused with gray along margin, radiating lines; sometimes with trident mark. Sternum suffused with dark gray. Clypeus height 2. Chelicerae light orange-brown apical part lighter; excavated, ~ 13 seta-tipped tubercles; promargin five denticles, retromargin four tiny denticles. Cheliceral stridulatory organ easily visible ~64 striae, narrowly spaced throughout. ABDOMEN: Uniformly light to dark gray. LEGS: Light yellow, basal part of femur darker; leg I total length: 3.17; leg III total length: 2.11; Tm I: 0.21, Tm IV: absent. GENITALIA: Palpal retrolateral tibial apophysis long, smooth; dorsal tibial apophysis wide, smooth; two retrolateral trichobothria and one dorsal ( Fig. 354 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Cymbium triangular; glabrous depression present ( Fig. 354 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ); dorsal cymbial tubercle triangular, rugose; ventral cymbial tubercle small, smooth; prolateral notch shallow ( Fig. 355 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Paracymbium apical pocket short, anterior pocket long making a large cover, posterior pocket absent ( Fig. 356 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Embolus tip wide and pointed with wide and dentate prong; ventrally rugose; basally with one spur (sometimes missing); Fickert’s gland absent; ventral lamella transparent, serrated; thumb reaching embolus proper ( Fig. 356 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Embolus proper set apically, small ( Fig. 356 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Anterior terminal apophysis wide with numerous long and short protrusions; posterior terminal apophysis with pointed tip, with one large spur and two small spikes basally ( Fig. 357 View FIGURES 354 – 360 arrow); lamella characteristica wide, well sclerotized with rounded, serrated tip ( Fig. 357 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ).
Female: Total length 1.57; carapace length 0.62, width 0.47.
CEPHALOTHORAX: Coloration same as male. Clypeus height 2. Chelicerae light yellow-brown; promargin six teeth, retromargin five denticles. Cheliceral stridulatory organ visible ~57 striae, narrowly spaced. ABDOMEN: Same as male. LEGS: Same as male; palpal dark yellow-brown, tarsal claw absent; leg I total length: 2.48; leg III total length: 1.83; Tm I: 0.26, Tm IV: absent. GENITALIA: Epigynum with wide, rounded proximal part of scape; epigynal slits long and narrow; pit hook depression absent ( Fig. 358 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ); lateral lobes very long; stretcher and pit medium ( Fig. 359 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Median part of scape long and narrow; genital pores situated at base of lateral lobes pockets ( Fig. 360 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ). Internal genitalia with elongated, sinuous ventral receptacula and small oval dorsal one ( Figs 359, 360 View FIGURES 354 – 360 ).
