Holotype. (♂) Malaysia: SW Sabah, nr. Long Pa Sia (East), 25.xi. –8.xii.1987, c. 1000 m, Mal. trap 4, C. van Achterberg, RMNH´87 (Leiden).
Etymology: The species name refers to the strongly striated basal tergites.
Description: ♂. Body length 15.5 mm.
Head. Flagellum with 38 flagellomeres, bristle-shaped; 1 st flagellomere 2.6 × longer than wide. Tyloids on flagellomeres 7–17, long-oval, maximally 0.5 × as long as the flagellomeres. Temple rather short, moderately and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.0 × and OOD 0.9 × ocellar diameter. Frons finely granulated, with rather dense punctures dorsally. Face rather densely punctate, medially and laterally slightly bulging. Clypeus almost flat, with sparse punctures; apical margin blunt, straight (fig. 6A). Malar space 0.5 × as long as width of mandibular base. Mandible with two large teeth, ventral tooth moderately shorter than dorsal tooth, not turned inwards. Gena densely punctate. Genal carina reaching hypostomal carina away from mandibular base.
Mesosoma . Notaulus distinctly impressed in frontal 0.4 of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum coarsely punctate and smooth and shining between punctures. Mesopleuron densely punctate, shining, speculum smooth. Metapleuron coarsely punctate, partly rugose; juxtacoxal carina present. Scutellum moderately elevated, with highest point baso-medially and continuously slanting apically, about as long as wide, densely punctate, lateral carina in basal 0.3. Propodeum complete carinated (fig. 6B), continuously slanting towards apex (as in Coelichneumon ), without apophysis, covered with long setae laterally. Area basalis 1.7 × wider than long, without median tubercle. Area superomedia hexagonal, slightly wider than long; costula reaching at 7/10 of its length. Hind coxa densely punctate. Fore metatarsus without apical tooth. Hind femur with sparse punctures in ventral half, 4.2 × longer than wide. Claws simple. Areolet almost quadrangular, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 1.0 × their width. Vein 1cu-a interstitial.
Metasoma. Postpetiole moderately widened, punctate and finely aciculate, median field not separated. 2 nd tergite 1.2 × longer than wide. Gastrocoelus large, strongly impressed, smooth. Thyridium large, transverse, 2.0 × wider than the interval between thyridia (fig. 6C). 2 nd and 3 rd tergites coarsely punctate and strongly striate medially; 4 th tergite with superficial punctures, distinctly striate medially. 2 nd to 4 th sternites with median folds. Apical margin of hypopygium distinctly elongate and almost pointed medially.
Colour. Black. Ivory are palps, mandible basally, clypeus except brown apical margin, face, gena and outer orbit, frontal orbit, small spot of vertex, scape and pedicel ventrally, collar and upper margin of pronotum, spot of tegula, and subtegular ridge. 1 st to 3 rd tergites red (fig. 6C), apical margin of 3 rd tergite narrowly brown. Following tergites blackish. Fore and mid coxae and trochanters ivory frontally, ± brown dorsally; hind coxa and trochanter black, ± ivory apically; fore and mid legs ivory frontally, black dorsally; hind femur reddish, infuscate basally and ± ivory apically; hind tibia brown, ivory externally; hind tarsus black. Wings with brownish suffusion in distal half; pterostigma black.
♀ unknown.
Remarks. The generical position of this new species in the genus Amblyjoppa Cameron is questionable, since the ♀ is unknown. The structure of the propodeum resembles members of the genus Coelichneumon . The new ♂ is mainly characterized by the large and smooth gastrocoelus, very wide thyridium and strongly striated basal tergites.
Distribution. Only known from Borneo.
