Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5. 1

Description. Integument dark-brown. Frons and vertex punctate; oval punctures and shallow longitudinal striae between antennal tubercles. Superior ocular lobes with five rows of ommatidia. Antennae pubescent, reaching ante-apical portion of elytra; antenomeres III and IV with short apical spines; antennomere V only projecting apically. Scape coarsely punctate.

Prothorax with round lateral tubercles; sides with silky, whitish pubescence. Pronotum with five tubercles, central tubercle elongate; pronotum covered by silky, whitish pubescence, except on central tubercle; coarse, sparse punctures and setae between tubercles. Prosternum punctate with transverse striae on anterior third. Pro-, meso- and metasternum covered by silky pubescence interspersed with sparse punctures with short setae. Scutellum pubescent.

Elytra with shiny integument and equidistant piliferous punctures containing long setae. Elytral apices transversely truncated with rounded sides.

Femora slightly swollen, pubescent. Tarsomere I about as long as II and III combined.

Abdominal ventrites pubescent, with piliferous punctures.

Measurements in mm, holotype female. Total length 13.4; prothorax length, 2.7; prothorax width, 3.2; elytron length, 9.4; humeral width, 3.4.

Etymology. The species epithet honors Eleandro Moysés for his friendship and constant help.

Type-material. Holotype female, BOLIVIA, Santa Cruz, 20 km N Camiri, road to Eyti, 1250 m, 6–8 km E, Hwy 9, 1952’S 6329’W, 5, 6, 10.XII.2012, Wappes, Bonaso & Skillman col. (MNKM). Paratype male with same data as holotype except:

Skillman/Wappes/Bonaso as collectors (FWSC).

Discussion. Mephritus eleandroi sp. nov. is similar to M. castaneus Martins & Napp, 1992 in the reddishbrown integument, elytra with long hairs and unarmed apices. It is distinguished by the sides of the prothorax with round gibbosities, and uniform elytral punctation. In M. castaneus , the lateral tubercle of the prothorax is acute, short, and the base of elytra has fewer tuberculate punctures.
