Scolia quadricincta quettaensis Cameron, 1908
Distribution in the Arabian Peninsula: Kuwait ( Al-Houty 1989 Photo 521 as Scolia erythrocephala Fabricius, 1798 ), Oman ( Osten et al. 2003 as Scolia flaviceps quettaensis Cameron, 1908 ), United Arab Emirates ( Osten et al. 2003 as Scolia flaviceps quettaensis ; Schulten 2007 as Vobalayca flavifrons quettaensis ; Schmid-Egger 2017 as Scolia flaviceps Eversmann, 1846 ).
Extralimital distribution: Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan ( Osten et al. 2003).
Remarks: Al-Houty (1989: Photo 521) provided a photograph purportedly of Scolia erythrocephala but which is of a male of S. quadricincta quettaensis (Mokrousov, pers. comm.), a taxon not listed in that work; whether all of the records of S. erythrocephala from Kuwait reflect such misidentifications, and to what degree, remains uncertain. Although Osten (2005b) considered S. quettaensis and S. mangichlakensis Radoszkowski, 1879 as synonymous with S. flaviceps, Lelej & Mokrousov (2017) listed S. flaviceps as synonymous with S. quadricincta (Scopoli, 1787) , and they recognized S. quadricincta mangichlakensis (and, by implication, S. quadricincta quettaensis ) as valid.
Scolia saudita Gadallah & Brothers , nom. nov. (= Scolia arabica Gadallah, 2004 )
Distribution in the Arabian Peninsula: Saudi Arabia ( Gadallah 2004 as Scolia arabica Gadallah ); Yemen (Schmid- Egger 2017 as S. arabica Gadallah ).
Extralimital distribution: No records.
Remarks: Gadallah (2004) described this species as new under the name Scolia arabica , unaware that Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau (1845: 526) had previously published that name for a species from “Arabie”. The 2004 name is a junior primary homonym of the 1845 name and is permanently invalid (ICZN 1999: Article 57.2) and must be replaced. We thus propose Scolia saudita for it, with reference to the locality of the holotype.
