DISTRIBUTION. — Polytypic species; the nominal subspecies is distributed in central and southern Europe, eastwards as far as the Caucasus and Armenia.
CHOROTYPE. — European.
REMARKS
The species is characterized by Jeannel (1936) as a pholeophile, associated with rabbit burrows, but it has also been reported to be necrophagous ( Salgado et al. 2008).
