DISTRIBUTION. — Polytypic species, distributed throughout Europe, eastwards as far as the Caucasus and Anatolia. In Italy the nominal subspecies is distributed in the mainland and Sicily.
CHOROTYPE. — European.
REMARKS
It lives in the leaf litter of deciduous woodlands, and occasionally enters natural caves.
