Millardiana longitentaculata Wedler & Larson, 1986 View in CoL
(fig. 2C)
Millardiana longitentaculata Wedler & Larson, 1986: 90 View in CoL , figs. 7Ba–b, pl. 1 fig. 8.— Calder, 1988b: 13, figs 9–10.
Material examined. Stn. 1: 21.03.2008 —a small colony, composed of 4 gastro- and 3 gonozooids, on Thalassia testudinum .
Type locality. La Parguera, Puerto Rico.
Remarks. The present material is too scarce to allow a detailed redescription of this species. Millardiana longitentaculata is easily recognizable due to the deep red color of living polyps, the prominent hypostome, and the long, filiform tentacles arranged in 2–3 closely-set whorls. The 4 gastrozooids in my material have 17, 18, 20, and 23 tentacles, respectively. The 3 gonozooids are provided with 1, 2, and 4 tentacles, respectively; no gonophores were developed on these polyps. The nematocysts were not examined.
Millardiana longitentaculata View in CoL has been previously found living on algae ( Wedler & Larson 1986) and on shells of Cerithium litteratum ( Calder 1988b) View in CoL ; the present material was found on leaves of Thalassia testudinum .
Distribution. Puerto Rico ( Wedler & Larson 1986), Bermuda ( Calder 1988b), Guadeloupe (present study).
