Subfamily Vespinae
Vespinae include hornets, yellow jackets and small nocturnal wasps ( Provespa ). This subfamily had 67 species belonging to 4 genera in the checklist by Carpenter and Kojima (1997), but Holarctic species are no longer recognized ( Kimsey & Carpenter 2012), so that there are now 71 species.
