Parafontaria crenata Shinohara, 1986 View in CoL
(gures 2, 6G, 11A, 13E, 15F, 16, 18, 19) Parafontaria crenata Shinohara, 1986: 3 , gure 2, male holotype and female paratype ( NSMT,
examined), type locality: Houraiji, Hourai-cho, Minamishitara-gun , Aichi Prefecture ;
Murakami, 1993: 99.
Diagnosis. Similar to P. laminata but separable from that species in having the apical process of gonopods larger than the mesal process of the gonopods (gures 10F–I, 11A) and in lacking brown stripes along the posterior margins of the metatergites. Similar to P. longa but diVering in lacking the tibiotarsal inner process of the gonopods (gure 6G, H).
Male holotype. Gonopodal characters as follows (gures 6G, 11A). Telopodite forming one and a half loops. Femur with femoral bend, mesal tooth and lateral tooth. Tibiotarsus bent dorsally near border between femur and tibiotarsus; tibiotarsal process long and slender, located at three-quarters of length, extending along main branch of tibiotarsus, not completely visible in mesal view; apical process spatulate, larger than mesal process; mesal process slender; solenomerite forming small process.
Colour in life (based on male from Honzaka-tôge Pass, Toyohashi-shi, Aichi Prefecture). Tergites orange, without stripes.
Female paratype. Anterolateral corners of paranota of segments 5–7 angular (gure 16A). Coxae and sternite of segment 3 modi ed as in gure 13E. Cyphopodal bellows tube soft, not sclerotized, without at region on posterior surface (gure 15F).
Variation. The female paratype is much larger than the sympatric male in body size. In specimens from Honzaka-tôge Pass, Toyohashi-shi, anterolateral corners of paranota of segments 5–8 of a male and those of segments 3–9 of a female project acutely (gure 16B).
Measurements (in mm, mean (range)). Males (N =3): HW 3.77 (3.5–4.1), MTW 5.60 (5.2–6.1). Females (N =2): HW 4.20 (3.5–4.9), MTW 6.20 (4.9–7.5).
