6. Passiflora foetida Linnaeus (1753: 959) View in CoL
≡ Granadilla foetida (Linnaeus) Gaertner (1788: 289) View in CoL .
≡ Tripsilina foetida (Linnaeus) Rafinesque (1836: 103) View in CoL , as ‘ fetida ’.
≡ Dysosmia foetida (Linnaeus) M. Roemer (1846: 149) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated by Killip 1938: 483):—COUNTRY UNKNOWN. Without locality, no date, collector and collection unknown ( LINN1070.24 About LINN !) ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ).
Notes: —Killip (1938) designated a specimen in the LINN herbarium (LINN1070.24; Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ) as the lectotype of the name, presumably because Linnaeus’ own handwriting appears at the bottom of the sheet ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ). Although this specimen is not the most typical form for P. foetida , it is still well within the range of variation for the species as circumscribed by Linnaeus. Irrespective of Vanderplank’s (2013: 370) comments, Killip’s lectotypification is not superseded as it is not in conflict with the protologue (McNeill et al. 2012: Art. 9.19).
