Type: — CUBA. “Cuba Orientali, prope,” 1867, C. Wright 2601 (holotype GOET009390 View Materials !; isotypes G00441004 !, G00441005 !, GH00068022 !, K000323250 !, MA607468 !, MO2063293 !, NY01444432 !, P00605794 !, US 448904!, YU244604 !) .

Notes: —Because the collector and collection number match with the protologue, and it was verified that there are no duplicates at GOET ( M. Appelhans, pers. comm.), it is safe to assume that this specimen is indeed the holotype.

An additional specimen in the herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden ( NY 00084319) bears a ‘ Wright 2601 ’ label, but differs morphologically from all other type specimens of this variety. Furthermore, the collection number on the label is written in a hand contrary to Wright’s and should, therefore, not be considered a type.
