Polynema View in CoL (subgenus Doriclytus Foerster, 1847 )
( Figs 6–15 View FIGURES 6 – 10 View FIGURES 11 – 13 View FIGURES 14, 15 )
Doriclytus Foerster 1847: 226 –227. Type species: Doriclytus vitripennis Foerster , by monotypy. Synonymized under Polynema View in CoL by Schauff 1984: 52.
Polynema (Doriclytus) View in CoL : Triapitsyn & Fidalgo 2006: 57 View Cited Treatment –60 (key, redefinition as a subgenus of Polynema View in CoL , diagnosis, taxonomic history, list of synonyms, discussion).
Comments. Most of the numerous (and largely undescribed) Neotropical representatives of P. ( Doriclytus ), such as P. (D.) reticulatum (Ogloblin) , have the mesoscutum and scutellum either more or less smooth or with a light cellulate sculpture. The propodeum is smooth, usually without a median carina. Some of the Neotropical species of P. ( Doriclytus ), however, such as, for instance, P. (D.) polychromum (Ogloblin) , have a conspicuously sculptured (reticulate) mesoscutum and scutellum; these can be grouped in the informal polychromum species group, which also includes P. (D.) howdeni (Yoshimoto) from Central America and several undescribed species that would fit in the former genus Restisoma Yoshimoto , synonymized under P. ( Doriclytus ) by Triapitsyn & Fidalgo (2006). The pallidiventre species group of P. ( Doriclytus ), as defined here, has all the features of the subgenus plus conspicuous transverse wrinkles (striations) on the propodeum and two short, incomplete submedial carinae at posterior margin of the propodeum. The propodeal carinae in this species group of P. ( Doriclytus ) are not as prominent as the well-defined submedial propodeal carinae in Polynemula or Platyfrons , but suggest links with these genera. The pallidiventre species group includes P. (D.) pallidiventre (Ogloblin) , the type species of the former subgenus Notopolynema , and also a new species from Argentina described below.
