Description. Female: Length 38 mm. Form large; integument shining, black with bluish metallic luster; elytra glabrous, metallic green with golden reflection. Head with palpi short, apical segment of labial pair subtruncate at apex, maxillary pair rounded at apices, both impressed dorsally; antennae extending about 1.5 segments beyond elytra, scape with dorsum deeply impressed over basal 2/3, sides of impression carinate, segments from 4th–6th densely clothed with very short, appressed, pubescence, 7th–11th with whitish depressed pubescence, segments laterally carinate from apex of 3rd–11th, 3rd segment longer than 1st, 4th subequal to 1st, each segment from 5th–8th slightly longer than 3rd, 9th and 10th successively shorter than 8th, 11th longest, appendiculate at apical 1/3. Pronotum with large, acute tubercles at middle, another obtuse tubercle on sides of apical ½; disc glabrate, nitid, very finely, sparsely punctate, apical and basal margin shallowly impressed; pubescence sparse, pale, long erect around base of lateral tubercles and near base; prosternum finely punctate above coxae, apex finely striate, pubescence, pale and erect, prosternal intercoxal process with punctures slightly coarser around coxae; proepisternum sparsely punctate; mesosternum with sides very finely clothed with short, white pubescence; metasternum with white, very fine, short pubescent at sides. Scutellum glabrate, more than twice as long as wide, impressed medially, and acutely pointed apically. Elytra about 2.4 times longer than broad; punctures obsolete (extremely minute, if present); pubescence obsolete, except for short, black hairs on apices and lateral margins; apices sinuate, obliquely subtruncate, sutural angles obtusely angulate. Legs with hind femora not attaining the apex of elytra. Abdomen finely pubescent at sides; fifth sternite broadly truncate at apex.

Male: Unknown

Etymology. The name refers to “golden-wing” in Greek, “ chrys- or gold” and “ -ptera or wings” referring to the metallic elytra with golden reflection.

Type. Holotype, female, Panama, Darién Prov., Serranía de Pirre, 1100 m, ca Cana Station, 11 May 2002, B.K. Eya ( BKEC). Holotype deposited at EMEC.

Note. Callistochroma chrysiptera can be differentiated from the other species of Callistochroma by the color of the integument, which is all black with bluish metallic sheen. The antennal segments 7th–11th are densely clothed with very short, depressed, whitish pubescence compared to other species with darker apical antennal segments. The elytra are glabrous metallic green with golden reflection. The overall coloration may resemble C. cacica (Bates) ; however, the elytra of C. cacica are finely, sparsely punctate. The abdominal segments of C. cacica are reddish to dark reddish-brown.
